About the Fetal Movement Log
Your baby’s movements are a sign of wellbeing. Use the count-to-10 method: note the time you start and each movement until you reach 10. This log shows how long it took, charts the count and tells you when to call.
Also known as: kick counter, count the kicks, baby kick tracker, fetal kick count.
Formula and cut-offs
Count-to-10 method: note the start time and each movement (kicks, rolls, swishes). 10 movements within 2 hours is reassuring. Fewer, or a clear change in your baby’s usual pattern, needs same-day medical advice.
Frequently asked questions
How many kicks should I feel?
Many doctors suggest 10 movements within 2 hours, but every baby has a normal pattern. A change from your baby’s own pattern matters most.
When do I start counting?
Most people feel regular movements from 18 to 25 weeks; formal counting is usually advised from about 28 weeks.
What if I feel fewer movements?
Contact your doctor or maternity unit straight away. Do not wait until the next day.
