About the CGPA Recovery

Low semester results can be recovered, and this calculator shows how. Enter your current CGPA, the credits you have completed, the CGPA you want and the credits you can still take. It gives the average GPA you need on those remaining credits, tells you honestly whether the target is still reachable, shows the best CGPA you can reach with straight top grades, and charts how your CGPA climbs semester by semester. Works for 4.0, 5.0 and 10-point scales.

Worked example

GPA needed each semester: 3.40 / 4.00 (Demanding). To lift your CGPA from 2.60 to 3.00, you need an average GPA of about 3.40 on your next 60 credits (4 semesters).

Formula and cut-offs

Required GPA = (target CGPA x (credits done + credits left) - current CGPA x credits done) / credits left. Best possible CGPA = (current CGPA x credits done + maximum GPA x credits left) / (credits done + credits left). Credits needed at GPA p = credits done x (target - CGPA) / (p - target).

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the GPA I need to raise my CGPA?

Multiply your target CGPA by total credits (done plus remaining), subtract your current grade points (CGPA x credits done), and divide by the remaining credits. The result is the average GPA you need on those credits.

Can I still reach my target CGPA?

If the required GPA is at or below the maximum of your scale (for example 4.00), yes. If it is higher, the target is not reachable with the credits left, so lower the target or add credits such as retakes where your university allows.

Does retaking a course raise my CGPA?

It depends on the university. Some replace the old grade, some average both grades and some count only the better one. Check your transcript rules, because it changes the calculation.

How many semesters does it take to recover a low CGPA?

The more credits you have already completed, the slower the CGPA moves. Enter the GPA you expect each semester and the calculator shows how many semesters it takes to reach your target.
